A good bookshop gathers good things around it. Everything here is chosen the way we choose the books - because somebody on the team thinks it's worth your time.

Notebooks and pens that make you want to start writing something, bookmarks for the book you're giving, and cards for the birthdays you remembered and the ones you nearly didn't. There's a shelf for small hands too: pencil cases, pens with faces, and a few friends to keep them company.

Board games and card games for rainy afternoons and family Christmases, and jigsaws from a few hundred pieces to a thousand - a curated selection, honestly kept. We'll recommend one the way we'd recommend a novel: tell us who it's for.

Browsing is thirsty work. We make coffee and tea in the shop, so take a cup to the window seat and read a few pages before you decide. In a hurry? We'll put it in a takeaway cup.

The shelves change with the seasons, and half the pleasure is what turns up. If you're after something particular, ask a bookseller - if we don't have it, we may know where it lives.
