Community partnerships

Books, events and ideas for organisations bringing local people together.

Working together

Portishead is full of people bringing others together, and we’re always pleased to hear from local charities, community groups, clubs, and care homes.

Sometimes books are at the centre of an idea; sometimes they are simply a good way to start a conversation. Whatever you have in mind, we’ll listen, offer practical advice and see how we might work together.

Books for groups and community projects

If you’re starting a reading group, putting together a small collection or looking for books around a particular theme, we can help with recommendations and ordering.

That might mean an accessible selection for a new book group, books connected with wellbeing, local history or a community project, or simply something enjoyable for people to share. If you already have a list, send it over. If you’re not sure where to begin, we’ll be happy to help you choose.

Events and book stalls

Planning a community day, festival, fundraiser, talk or workshop? We can bring along a carefully chosen book stall or help with the book-related part of your event.

We can select titles to suit the subject and audience, support an author or speaker event, or put together a display connected with a cause or occasion. Tell us a little about what you’re planning and we can talk through what would work best.

An idea of your own?

Good partnerships don’t always fit neatly into a list. If you have an idea involving books, reading or storytelling that we haven’t mentioned, please get in touch. We’d love to hear about it.

If you’re contacting us on behalf of a school, you can also find more information on our schools page.
