From the shop
September in the Bookshop
Hello friends!
As the year turns and the children prepare to return to school, we have a variety of books, pens, and pencil cases to equip them for the new term. And for those starting school for the very first time, we have a variety of colourful picture books and sticker books to help them get excited for their new adventure!

Drop into the shop or give us a call and we'll be happy to recommend the right books for your children.
New Website

We've redesigned our website to make it even easier to use. You can now find our opening times and address, browse recommendations from our booksellers, get the latest information about our book club and back issues of this newsletter, and email our booksellers directly to order a book or ask a question.
Window Books Are Back!
Now the weather's cooling down, it's safe for our books to return to the window display without fading or shrivelling up in the sunlight. We think this makes the shop look much more cheerful than the "minimalist" approach we were forced to use during the heatwaves, so next time you're on the High Street, take a moment to enjoy our window!

Book Recommendation

One hundred thousand years ago, at least six different species of humans inhabited Earth. Yet today there is only one: homo sapiens. What happened to the others? And what may happen to us?
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book that begins about 70,000 years ago with the appearance of modern cognition. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.
While criticised by some reviewers for being too Western-centric, this is nevertheless an engrossing and thought-provoking overview of our development as a species, and is recommended for anyone interested in the historical reasons why things are the way they are today.
And that's it for now. We'll be in touch again next month. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you in the shop, where you're always guaranteed a warm welcome!
