Victory in Australia takes the reader back to the mid-1950s golden age of English cricket and perhaps the England team's greatest victory in an Ashes series. Under the captaincy of Len Hutton, England won the 1954-55 series in Australia despite being thrashed in the first Test. As well as Hutton, the team contained some of the greatest players in English cricket history, including Denis Compton, Peter May, Godfrey Evans, Trevor Bailey, Frank Tyson, Tom Graveney and Brian Statham. The book recreates the matches in vivid detail but also examines the personalities of the players and delves into the social history of the time.
Richard Whitehead will be talking to Stephen Chalke, multiple award-winning, Bristol-based cricket author.
